We are resolved to save this building.
It was a place where history happened, humanity prospered and people came together to prove that any one of us can make a difference in the world... if we choose to.
Six years before he died in 1926, Thomas Mott Osborne sat in the Osborne Library and wrote a friend:
"I love my library with an almost passionate devotion. I sometimes stand in the middle of the room and just gloat over the sight of the shelves. Then the thought comes: Of what use is it all? Is it all to go out of existence as soon as I am snuffed out?"
Today, more than eighty years later, the Osborne Library still stands -- but barely. We think the structure should be saved as a self-sustaining legacy of the Osbornes and the Wrights and how they helped make our region one of the world's brightest beacons in its struggle for the rights of women, freedom seekers, prisoners, troubled youth and others among us yearning for a voice.
OCSJ Board of Directors
